Does Rope Work As A Snake Repellent?

Homemade pest repellents are nothing new. People have all types of solutions for pests, targeting everything from their sense of smell to their sight. Snakes have fewer homemade solutions than some other animals, but there are still solutions to be found. A popular one is the use of rope as a way to scare away a snake. The thought process goes that snakes do not like rope and will not pass into a property if there is a rope there. They say that if you tie a rope to your property, where the snake enters, it will immediately want to leave. Is that true, though? Will something as simple as a rope really repel a snake?

Repelling with Rope
The idea is that snakes do not like rope. No matter the type of snake, people say it will avoid the rope the moment it sees it. That is not true, though. In fact, snakes have poor eyesight and may not notice the rope at all upon entering your home. If it wants to get into your property, it will. Rope is not going to do anything to stop a snake. It might act as a speed bump, but nothing more. If you want a reliable means of keeping snakes out, you are going to have to use a method that actually works.

Trusted Method
The best way to keep out snakes is to give them no reason to enter your property. If they go to your property, it is because they think it is a good source of food and shelter. If you have anything that could make them think that, remove it. This might require some pest control if there are rodents and other animals living around the property, but it is worth it. No other method is going to remove and keep out the snakes. If there is food on your property, they are going to go after it. Keep your property clean and free of anything that could potentially attract a snake. If there is a snake, call some sort of professional or use a trap. Ropes are not going to do the job.

People may say that ropes work, but they do not. If a snake did not enter a property that had rope, it likely had nothing to do with the rope itself. There is no evidence that rope is an effective means of repelling snakes and you should not rely on it if you have a snake problem.
